McClendon for Whatcom

Why I’m running for Council:

We talk a lot about our differences, but whether you live in Blaine or Bellingham, we share many of the same hopes and dreams, fears and challenges, for our families and our communities. Republican or Democrat, we have more in common than not.

Our neighbors in the 5th District face very real problems — affordable housing, hunger, and lack of job opportunities. We also have many county-wide issues — land use, water, the jail – that have languished for decades without resolution. “Moving our county forward” should be more than a slogan.

Technology and climate change are transforming our communities before our eyes. We can either sit on the sidelines and watch or proactively reinvent our local economy to meet the challenge. I’ve spent the last decade getting to know people from all walks of life across the county. I’m ready to engage anyone, with respect, to find and implement lasting solutions.

We have a duty to work together — business, community groups, ordinary people — to create smart, efficient, and fair government policies that take advantage of future job opportunities and shared prosperity.

I would be honored to have your vote.
